10 dead in Austrian school shooting in Graz

Nine people have been killed in a school shooting in Graz by a 21-year-old former student, who then killed himself, it was confirmed.

The suspected shooter was an Austrian citizen who lived in Graz, and likely owned weapons legally, with no previous criminal record. He attended the school in the past, but did not graduate.

Twelve further people are injured, “some seriously,” Austria’s interior minister Gerhard Karner said, confirming earlier reports from emergency services.

Austria will hold a nationwide minute of silence on Wednesday, 10am, and observe three days of national mourning, the country’s chancellor Christian Stocker said, who called the attack “a national tragedy”.
