12-year-old discharges maggots after defilement by stepfather in Osun

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State command, has apprehended Richard, a 32-year-old commercial motorcycle rider, for allegedly defiling his 12-year-old stepdaughter. The victim was reported to have been discharging maggots after the incident.

The state commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo, in a statement made available to newsmen by the command spokesperson, ASCI Kehinde Adeleke, said the suspect, who resides in the Ofatedo area of the state, was arrested on November 14, 2025, after the suspect’s wife reported that her husband defiled her daughter and that maggots were coming from her private parts.

The wife revealed that the victim was staying with the suspect’s mother and that during one of the man’s visits to his mother’s house, he inserted his fingers into the victim’s private part.

The statement also revealed that a discreet investigation showed the suspect had been consulting an herbalist for help on various issues, and that the victim’s mother had left the marriage due to physical abuse but did not take her daughter along.

According to the wife, after she settled in a new apartment, she requested her daughter, and the suspect promised to bring the victim from his mother’s place. On the same day the suspect brought the victim to her house, he defiled her.

The mother said she discovered the offense when the victim was handed over to her, noticing a foul smell. Upon examining her body, she found maggots coming from the victim’s private parts.

The NSCDC boss said the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime in his confessional statement, explaining that he had obtained a new motorcycle on installment earlier that day and, filled with excitement, consumed alcohol, which allegedly prompted him to commit the crime.

Sotiyo said the victim has been taken to the hospital for adequate medical attention, warning individuals who prey on minors to desist. He added that the command will not hesitate to bring the full weight of the law upon anyone found culpable.
