13 injured in Ikotun-Igando road crash

Thirteen persons were injured in a serious road crash that occured on Sunday at College Bus Stop along Ikotun-Igando Road, Lagos.

The road accident involved a Volkswagen commercial bus and an Acura Jeep.

Confirming the incident,  the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, in a statement, said the crash left 13 passengers injured, prompting an immediate response from operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

He added ” According to preliminary investigations, the accident was caused by excessive speeding. The driver of the Acura Jeep reportedly lost control, mounted the median, and crashed into the oncoming commercial bus loaded with passengers. The force of the impact resulted in multiple fractures and severe injuries to several commuters.

” LASTMA operatives, in collaboration with security personnel from the Igando Police Division and bystanders, swiftly carried out a rescue operation, evacuating the injured. The victims, comprising eight men and five women, were quickly transported to a private medical facility in Igando for urgent treatment”.

Meanwhile, speaking on the incident, LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, reiterated the importance of adhering to speed limits to prevent such tragedies.

He emphasized the Lagos State Government’s ongoing efforts to install speed limit enforcement cameras at strategic locations to curb reckless driving.

Bakare-Oki extended his sympathies to the injured passengers and wished them a speedy recovery.

He reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to ensuring safer roads and reducing traffic-related accidents across the state.
