A 19 years old Computer Engineering student of Ipetu-Ijesa College of Technology, Tomiwa Victor Olonade, on Sunday committed suicide by hanging himself with telephone cable in his parent’s rented apartment at Isokun, Ilesa.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Yemisi Opalola who confirmed the incident said one Agboola Olusola, a youth leader reported the case at Ilesa Division ‘A’ and that no mark of violence was found on the body of the deceased.
Speaking on the incident, the octogenarian grandfather of the deceased, Pa. Enoch, said Tomiwa came back from school on Saturday morning to have a discussion with his mother.
Enoch, who expressed shock at the sudden and strange death of the teenager said: “His mother just sent him N80,000 on Friday to pay his school fee. I always send money to him whenever he complained of fund paucity.
In spite of all I passed through with my daughter to give you the best parents can do for their children, you chose to part with us in this gruesome manner.”
WesternPost gathered that the deceased, who was raised by a single mother, had earlier called her to have an important discussion with her, but the mother was said to have gone to church.
The bereaved mother had rushed back home to know why her son had wanted to see her urgently.
She was, however, surprised when sympathisers who had gathered in the building prevented her from entering in order not to see the son on the noose.
The reason why the deceased committed suicide was still sketchy as he did not leave any note behind.
It was learnt that traditionalists have since been contacted to perform some rites to persuade the god of thunder (Sango) to avert recurrence of the evil in the family.
According to the police, the corpse had been deposited at the Wesley Guild hospital, Ilesa.
Opalola added that the case was still under investigation by the ‘A’ Division, Ilesa.
