2023: Sanwo-Olu’s appointees vying for elective positions yet to resign

As the 2023 elections draw near, some political appointees in Lagos State, who have shown interest in contesting for elective positions are yet to resign contrary to the provision of the new electoral law.
Sections 8(12) of the electoral act signed by President Muhammadu Buhari recently, mandates all political appointees seeking elective offices to resign ahead of any party primaries they plan to participate in.
In line with the provisions of the new law, the state Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri Okunola in an E-document with Ref No: CIR/HOS/’22/Vol.1/017, said appointees and civil servants eyeing elective offices and aiming to participate in party primaries as well as other political activities were expected to have resigned by April 19th, 2022.
Recently, posters of the Special Adviser to the governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Solomon Saanu Bonu aspiring to contest for the House of Assembly seat for Badagry Constituency 1 were everywhere, including the internet.
The special adviser is still holding on to his position and all attempts to reach him have proofed abortive.
Also when contacted, Special Adviser on Transportation, Oluwatoyin Fayinka, who sources said is eyeing the House of Representatives seat, when contacted told Westernpost on phone to find out from appropriate quarters whether he has tendered his resignation letter or not, noting that when the time comes he will speak on the matter.
Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Dr Wale Ahmed’s posters have also been seen online but he is still in the office.
None of the three cabinet members, according to our investigation has come out to disclaim the posters circulating online about them contesting in the 2023 elections.
