2023 unique opportunity for Nigerian women to change political terrain – Aisha Buhari

Nigeria’s First Lady Aisha Buhari has urged women to participate more in the country’s political process.
Mrs. Buhari said this at a summit for political aspirants organised by the Women’s Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in collaboration with her office.
The first lady urged them not to allow women to be marginalized anymore.
“I would like to draw our attention to the need to increase our participation in governance, especially at the state and local government levels. This is important in making ourselves relevant as partners in progress and development,” she added.
She further urged the ruling APC to consider and implement the 35% affirmative action in the party’s constitution by taking all necessary steps in ensuring that women’s aspirations are fulfilled.
While commending the party’s leadership for supporting women over the years, she charged them to believe in women and show them more solidarity.
She also expressed the belief that the summit will make a difference in the political landscape of the country and promised to support all women aspirants through the electoral process.
Earlier, APC Women Leader, Dr. Betta Edu commended the First Lady for the support she has been giving women and urged her to do more, especially during the primary elections.
She said the essence of the summit was to garner moral support for female political aspirants, adding that there was no better person to do this than the mother of the nation.
