President Bola Tinubu has emphasised his administration’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s healthcare system, announcing a total allocation of ₦684.65 billion in the 2025 budget to enhance health infrastructure and primary healthcare services.

“We are convinced that Universal Health Coverage initiatives will strengthen primary healthcare systems across Nigeria,” the President stated during the budget presentation.

President Tinubu presented the 2025 budget, on Wednesday titled “Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity,” to a joint session of the National Assembly, outlining a spending plan aimed at driving economic growth, enhancing security, and improving critical sectors like health and education.

On Health, President Tinubu proposed a total of ₦2.48 trillion to strengthen healthcare systems, provide essential drugs, and improve Universal Health Coverage.

Of the total health sector allocation, the president announced that a total of ₦402 billion is earmarked for infrastructure investments to modernize hospitals and healthcare facilities and ₦282.65 billion will go to the Basic Health Care Fund to support primary healthcare delivery.

He said the funding will focus on revitalizing hospitals with essential resources, improving medication availability, and reducing reliance on imported medical supplies.

“This is consistent with the Federal Government’s planned procurement of essential drugs for distribution to public healthcare facilities nationwide,” Tinubu added.
