2025 budget: Tinubu to spend N14.97trillion on Defence and Security, Infrastructure, Health, and Education

President Bola Tinubu has proposed to spend a total of N14.97 trillion to fund four key economical sectors the 2025 national budget including, security and defence, health, infrastructure and Education.

President Tinubu presented the 2025 budget, on Wednesday titled “Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity,” to a joint session of the National Assembly, outlining a spending plan aimed at driving economic growth, enhancing security, and improving critical sectors like health and education.

In the proposed budget, Defence and Security is expected to gulp a total of ₦4.91 trillion to bolster national security and support the military, paramilitary, and police forces.

On Infrastructure, the president announced that a total of ₦4.06 trillion has been proposed to accelerate energy, transportation, and public works projects.

While on Education, Tinubu said a ₦3.52 trillion has been budgeted including funding for the Nigeria Education Loan Fund and Universal Basic Education.

On Health, a total of ₦2.48 trillion has been budgeted to strengthen healthcare systems, provide essential drugs, and improve Universal Health Coverage.

The president said the proposed 2025 budget targets ₦34.82 trillion in revenue, with projected expenditure at ₦47.90 trillion. Key highlights include ₦15.81 trillion allocated for debt servicing. Also ₦13.08 trillion budget deficit, equivalent to 3.89% of GDP.


President Tinubu described the budget as ambitious but necessary, emphasizing its role in securing Nigeria’s future.


The president also said the budget aims to stabilize key economic indicators including Inflation which is projected to drop from 34.6% to 15% by the end of 2025.


And the exchange rate is expected to improve from ₦1,700 to ₦1,500 per US dollar. He said the Crude oil production is forecast at 2.06 million barrels per day.
