2026 World Cup playoff: Super Eagles begin training for Gabon tie

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have commenced training ahead of Thursday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier playoff against Gabon.

The Eagles will face the Gabonese in the first semi-final of the African playoff in Morocco, hoping to qualify for the final, then advance to the global playoff, and ultimately secure a place in the World Cup proper.

According to information from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), 16 players participated in the first training session.

The players who took part in the session include Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze, Tolu Arokodare, Wilfred Ndidi, Olakunle Olusegun, Moses Simon, skipper William Troost-Ekong, and Stanley Nwabali.

Others are Benjamin Frederick, Chigozie Awaziem, Amas Obasogie, Ademola Lookman, Akor Adams, and Chidera Ejuke.

Five other players were still being expected to arrive in camp as of the time of filing this report.
