2026 World Cup qualifier: Super Eagles begin redemption mission against Rwanda

By Olaolu Joseph
Nigeria’s Super Eagles hope to revive their 2026 World Cup qualification hopes this Friday as they battle Rwanda in Kigali.
With a poor start putting the team in a precarious position in Group C, the Nigerian side must secure wins in its remaining fixtures, beginning with Friday’s match, to keep its qualification hopes alive.
Newly appointed manager Eric Chillé is fully aware of the task ahead but remains confident that his team will deliver against the Rwandans in Kigali.
The FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifier will take place at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, Rwanda, with kickoff scheduled for 5 PM Nigerian time.
A victory would take Nigeria to six points from five matches, keeping them within reach of Benin Republic (8 points), South Africa (7 points), and Rwanda (7 points) in Group C.
With star players like Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray), Ademola Lookman (Atalanta), Alex Iwobi, and William Troost-Ekong, Nigeria is heavily favored to secure a win.
Rwanda, however, will be aiming to earn at least a point, especially since all their previous home matches against Nigeria have ended in draws.
