2027: APC chair calls for issue-based campaign, peaceful polls

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has called for a peaceful 2027 general election, urging the ruling party and opposition to make the contest about ideas, records and policies.

Yilwatda spoke on Wednesday during his opening address at the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja.

He acknowledged the role of opposition parties in Nigeria’s democracy, saying the forthcoming election should be conducted with respect for Nigerians.

“To our colleagues in the opposition, we recognise your legitimate role in our democracy. Let the coming election be a contest of ideas, records and policies, conducted peacefully and with respect for the Nigerian people,” he said.

The APC chairman said his party would defend its record with facts and trust Nigerians to make their choice through a credible democratic process.

“The APC will present its case with confidence, defend its record with facts and trust Nigerians to make their choice through a credible democratic process,” he added.

The inauguration was attended by President Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

Other prominent political figures associated with the expanded campaign council include Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
