2027: Coalition lacks institutional structure – Sule Lamido

Ex-governor of Jigawa State and chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Sule Lamido has described the coalition formed by opposition political figures to unseat the ruling APC as a collection of individuals with no institutional framework or defined rules.

Lamido, who spoke to reporters in Kano, said that in contrast to the organised alliance of 2014 that established the All Progressives Congress (APC), the current coalition is characterised by individual motivations and lack of institutional cohesion.

“What we had in 2014 was a coalition of organs — CPC, ACN, ANPP, and PDP defectors. Today’s so-called coalition is a gathering of individuals, no institutional foundation, no clear parameters,” Lamido said.

He noted that any coalition intended to remove the ruling party must be founded on robust principles – democracy, unity, stability, security, and prosperity – rather than ambition, vengeance, or personal grudges.

Lamido reiterated his dedication to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite severe internal problems within the organisation.

“I remain in PDP. I was made, jailed, harassed, and nearly killed because of PDP. I will not renounce my history, my legacy, or my heritage. But I will support any arrangement, within PDP or outside PDP, for a secure Nigeria in 2027,” he declared.

“I am PDP in flesh, blood, bone, and soul. But if the only way to save Nigeria is outside the PDP, I will still do it — because Nigeria must come first.”

Lamido maintained that the PDP must return to its founding principles to bounce back to reckoning.

“The party lacks the courage to do what is right. If the PDP does the right thing, it can come back stronger, but not with double-dealing leaders,” he said.
