2027 Elections: Tinubu on every lips! by Kola Amzat
As the nation inches closer to 2027 general elections, a political phenomenon is reverberating all across the length and breadth of the country.
It’s unprecedented in the annals of political evolution in Nigeria. It’s unusual! It’s simply unfathomable!
A name has become constant, a recurring decimal and imperially dominant in every household, corporate sphere, 774 LGAs across the country, 36 states of the federation, including FCT, Abuja, and of course, at the Villa where the nation’s power and authority flows from.
The country has never witnessed such before. Not even in the golden era of the Nigeria founding fathers when leaders were cult-heroes
Nigerians vividly recall that Chief Obafemi Awolowo was indisputably the Yorubas’ political idol. But, his impregnable dominance was largely confined to Western Region.
The great Zik of Africa was a tin-god in the Eastern Region. Despite his charismatic personality and panache, his influence hardly extended beyond Igboland.
Sir Ahmadu Bello was a Northern political kingpin. But, throughout his reign, his political influence never transcended beyond the Northern hemisphere.
Chief MKO Abiola, the winner of 1993 presidential elections appeared to break the jinx, but his impact wasn’t really left as the military top-brass aborted his dream.
But, in the politics of 2023 and beyond, the jinx has completely been broken. There has been a radical political shift. A new leader with incredible national appeal and sentiments has emerged.
From been a Lagos state governor, APC national leader and presently, the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Tinubu has not only become an household name, he has emerged a STUDY in contemporary leadership, thinker of gargantuan repute, pan-Africanist, and country’s problem solver.
In a country like Nigeria considered as the largest black nation in the globe, too big, too complex, too diversified-culturally, religiously and linguistically, ONLY THE PRESIDENT AND HIS MAKER could provide plausible explanations on strategies and means he deployed to sway key stakeholders–members of political class, leaders of thoughts, incumbent governors, senators, House of Reps members, professional groups, women groups, students etc, across the country firmly on his side.
Yes, there are bold and unprecedented economic, oil & gas, and tax reforms, anchored on unification of multiple exchange rates, removal of oil subsidy, as well as tax reforms ROOTED in four pillars, a development that has combined together to necessitate the following milestones:
· Unprecedented increase in crude-oil production presently standing at 1.71 million barrels/day.
· Impressive performance of foreign reserves presently standing at $50 billion mark.
· Record-breaking accomplishment of Nigeria Stock Exchange with market capitalization presently standing at ₦110 trillion mark,
· Impressive positive Balance of Payment.
· Substantial surge in revenue generation from non-oil sectors, with the country surpassing the revenue target by more than 85%, a development that has significantly increased revenues distribution to all the three tiers of government, and in the process, encouraging and strengthening the state governments’ investments in infrastructures, educations, medical facilities, social services and security.
· Tax reforms anchored on four (4) pillars -(1) The Nigerian Tax Act, (2)Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment), (3)Nigeria Tax Administration Act and (4) the Joint Revenue (Establishment) Act, that have all combined to streamline revenue administration, enhance compliance, strengthen intergovernmental coordination.
Yet, there are other personal attributes–credible and genuine leadership, interpersonal relationship, patriotism, genuine love and affection for Nigerian people that the president has displayed time and time over, which has enabled him to seamlessly penetrate all creed, sex, demography, religion.
Consequent upon the president’s political penetration and maneuvering, the ruling party presently is in charge of 31 states (and still counting), including FCT, Abuja, that was hitherto the political fortress of PDP.
APC is also in firm control of more than 2/3 majority of the national assembly.
Equally, past governors, past national assembly members, past ministers and other past top government functionaries are defecting to the ruling party in droves.
In contrast, PDP appears coming out of the intensive care that the party has been sojourning in the last two years. It could take them the next 5-6 years before they stabilize.
ADC is practically dead on arrival. It’s clear that the party is not in existence in any constituency across the length and breadth of the country. At least, the by-elections across the federation in 2025 and recently in 2026, gave them out as party of grandstanders.
It’s evident their leaders only deploy FCT, Abuja as a platform from time to time to project their relevance by shamelessly attacking good-intentioned policies and programs of the government. In the fullest of time, the hijackers of the party will return back the party to the original founders/owners.
It’s also apparent that LP is largely a party mainly dominant on social media and nothing more. The party has completely lost the small influence it wielded before the 2023 general elections.
It’s instructive to note that Tinubu represents a new order, a new dimension and a new philosophy in contemporary politics.
Without doubt, his impressive reign of barely 30 months has given him out as a symbol of unity, unification and rallying point for the entire nation.
And, this couldn’t have come at a better time when the country desperately needs an astute & thoroughbred MOBILIZER to lead more than 230 million people to break loose from the past challenges that have tied her down, and ultimately, TURN THE TIDE.
After-all, Kwame Nkrumah, the legendary Ghanaian president emerged to provide a rallying point for his people in the 60’s.
Julius Nyerere, the Tanzania political legend did the same for the East African in the 70’s.
Jomo Kenyatta was the Kenya gift, who did a turn-around for the Kenyas during 80’s and 90’s.
Not to forget Nelson Mandela, the unforgettable and highly revered African statesman who was the South Africans’ rallying point as president, after he emerged from prison 27 years after incarceration by Apartheid government.
No doubt, Tinubu remains the Nigerian version of a resourceful, focused, visionary, thoughtful, proactive and very patriotic leader.
What the president fervently desires from the generality of Nigerians is their maximum support and prayer in his dire quest not only to transform the country, but, to also place her in the world map.
And, this shouldn’t be difficult to give a president who is determined and purposed to give everything for our dear country to prosper and flourish.
