2027: Gbolarumi opens up on rift with Makinde

By Adejayan Gbenga

Former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Hazeem Gbolarumi, has blamed his rift with Governor Seyi Makinde on the governor’s alleged plan to choose a successor without consulting PDP leaders.

This was disclosed during an Iftar event with the Oyo State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

At the event, Gbolarumi revealed that their once cordial relationship broke down over Makinde’s unilateral approach to picking a hier.

“He should engage PDP leaders before making such decisions,” Gbolarumi said, while criticizing the exclusion of party members from appointing commissioners, special advisers, and local government chairmen.

He also warned that sidelining stakeholders could alienate key supporters, thereby diminishing the power of the party.

Amid giving further clarification, Gbolarumi noted that the disagreement reflects political interests, not a personal feud, adding that his faction currently controls the party structure in the state.
