2027: Over 150,000 opposition members defect to APC in Bauchi

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State says more than 150,000 members of opposition political parties have joined its ranks, in what the party described as a major boost to its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

The new members were received into the ruling party at a ceremony in Azare, Bauchi State, at the weekend.

The defectors were drawn from the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Social Democratic Party (SDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, who attended the event, said the influx reflected growing support for President Bola Tinubu and the APC in the state.

“Today is a great day in Azare, here in Azare, Bauchi State, where the All Progressives Congress welcomed more than 150,000 new members,” Pate said.

He said the development had strengthened the party’s confidence ahead of the 2027 elections, arguing that the movement of opposition politicians into the APC demonstrated growing acceptance of Tinubu’s leadership.

Pate said the party expected the support to translate into electoral gains for Tinubu in Bauchi State when Nigerians go to the polls in 2027.

He said the gathering also provided an opportunity for the APC to unveil its candidates for the forthcoming elections, adding that their emergence had received broad support from stakeholders.

“We’ll double down, we’ll work hard, we’ll organise, we’ll mobilise, we will work very hard to ensure that APC succeeds in Bauchi State, and Mr President gets as many of the electoral votes that will be cast in Bauchi State,” he said.
