2027 polls will be referendum on hardship, insecurity under APC — PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that the 2027 general election will serve as a referendum on hunger, insecurity, and economic hardship under the All Progressives Congress (APC), rather than on campaign rhetoric or financial power.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said Nigerians have become “more discerning” and will reject the APC at the polls.

Ologunagba accused the ruling party of turning poverty into a political weapon, stressing that worsening living conditions will ultimately determine how citizens vote.

“The real issues on the ballot in 2027 are hunger, insecurity, and economic despair — problems no amount of money can wish away,” he said.

He contrasted the APC administration with previous PDP governments, noting that farmers once had access to fertiliser through mobile platforms, while today, Nigerians are struggling to afford basic necessities. “Under the APC, people are forced to ‘buy’ hunger. In 2027, Nigerians will make their voices heard,” he stated.

The PDP spokesman further accused the APC of deploying state security agencies to intimidate opposition members during recent by-elections in Kaduna and Taraba.

“On election night, our leading members in Kaduna were detained. In Taraba, elected officials from our party were arrested as well. That’s not democracy — that’s coercion,” he alleged.

Ologunagba warned that such manipulation would not succeed in the 2027 elections.
