2027: Uzodimma warns against ‘do-or-die’ politics ahead of party primaries

Ahead of the commencement of his party’s primary elections, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has cautioned aspirants against adopting a “do-or-die” approach to the electoral process, stressing the need for peaceful and transparent primaries.

Uzodimma made the remarks during a stakeholders’ meeting attended by aspirants, party leaders of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), and other key stakeholders in the state.

In a post via his X account, the governor said the meeting was convened to harmonise strategies and address critical issues necessary for the successful conduct of the primaries.

The governor emphasised that the party’s internal election process must be guided by unity, fairness, and the party’s overall interests rather than personal ambition.

“I strongly admonished against the ‘do or die’ approach to the primaries,” Uzodimma said, noting that only one candidate would eventually emerge for each position and urging members to support whoever emerges victorious.

He also reaffirmed the importance of zoning within the party, describing it as a mechanism for ensuring inclusiveness, fairness, and balanced democratic representation across constituencies.

Uzodimma advised aspirants whose ambitions conflict with existing zoning arrangements to respect the framework in the interest of peace, equity, and party cohesion.

The governor maintained that adherence to zoning principles would strengthen unity within the party and give all groups a sense of belonging ahead of the elections.
