2027: Wike explains Rivers visit, says he won’t allow Atiku win
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has explained his frequent visits to Rivers State, saying they are not connected to any plan to relocate from Abuja ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike said the visits were aimed at maintaining contact with his supporters, engaging with the people and keeping track of political developments in the state.
The minister spoke on Wednesday during his monthly media parley in Abuja, where he dismissed reports that he was preparing to move back to Rivers State.
He said he could not afford to remain in Abuja and rely solely on assurances from political associates that everything was under control in Rivers, stressing the need to personally assess the situation.
“It’s not about relocating, it’s about coming home to relate with the people and talk to them, and also do those things you know how to do very well, not to take chances,” Wike said.
The former Rivers governor said the current political period was crucial, adding that he would remain actively involved and would not sit back and allow former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to win the 2027 presidential election.
“I can tell you my parents are still very much alive. Of course, this is time for politics. You want me to fold my hand for Atiku Abubakar to come and win the election?” he said.
Wike maintained that he had no plans to relocate to Rivers State but would continue visiting the state to stay abreast of political developments and engage directly with his supporters.
