‘206,659 beneficiaries have enrolled in Osun Health Insurance Scheme’

Chairman of the Governing Board of Osun Health Insurance Scheme (OHIS), Mr Adeoye Adelakun said no fewer than 206, 659 beneficiaries have enrolled under the scheme since its commencement.

Adelakun, who disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Tuesday said the scheme started with the enrollment of public servants in May, 2019.

He noted that the figure does not include the 30,420 vulnerable persons from the Ministry of Youths and Sports and 420 vulnerable waste packers and supervisors from Osun Waste Management Agency who will soon be on board.

He further said that out of the total figure of the enrollees, 89,148 were civil servants, and 2,203 from the informal sector.

Adelakun also said that 40,181 vulnerable persons under the Basic Health Care Provision Board had been enrolled, while 31,212 vulnerable under the state’s equity were also in the scheme as well as 43,915 students under the Tertiary Institution Students Health Insurance Programme.

The chairman said that government paid 3 percent counterpart fund, while civil servants have to pay 1.5 per cent of their basic salary to be able to access the premium health packaged insurance.

He added that 102 private and public healthcare providers were accredited by the scheme.

He noted that enrollees commenced accessing care in November, 2019 while regular processing and payment of capitation and fee for service to Health Care Professionals (HCPs) received a boost.

He explained that there is increasing standard of hospitals through quality inspection and accreditation exercise for good healthcare delivery in the state while payment of financial/medical assistance to formal and informal sector enrollees and non-enrollees under the scheme was accorded priority.

Adelakun also disclosed that prison inmates, government orphanages and correctional centres have been included to benefit from the scheme.

Also speaking, OHIS Executive Secretary, Mr. Niyi Oginni, said the agency has put measures in place to ensure that health care providers do not discriminate against any patients.

Oginni said one of the health care providers was recently delisted due to the hospital’s bad attitude towards OHIS patients.

He assured that the agency would continue to provide affordable and quality healthcare to all its enrollees.
