The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, on Monday paraded 35 suspects arrested for various crimes across the state.
According to reliable sources, the suspects were apprehended within one week in different parts of the 18 local government areas of Ondo State.
While holding the parade at the corps’ headquarters in Akure, the state capital, the Commander of Amotekun in the state, Akogun Adetunji, disclosed that the suspects were linked to various offences, including kidnapping, theft, rape, and human trafficking.
He disclosed that 19 of the suspects were arrested for breach of public order, three for human trafficking, eleven for kidnapping, and two for rape-related offences.
Adetunji explained that in one of the human trafficking cases, suspects allegedly defrauded a victim of about 1.4 million cedis under the guise of facilitating travel to Canada, adding that the victim was held for about two weeks before escaping and reporting the matter, leading to the recovery of the money and travel documents.
The commander also revealed that six suspects specialised in stealing motorcycles, attacking riders, and dismantling the stolen bikes for sale as spare parts.
Meanwhile, Adetuji added that operatives equally recovered a stolen Lexus Jeep in Owo after sealing off entry and exit points in the town.
He further stated that enforcement of the ban on night-time commercial motorcycle operations had led to the impoundment of over 120 motorcycles, warning that violators would continue to face sanctions.
