5 things to know about new Edo Deputy Governor, Omobayo Godwin

Following Philip Shaibu’s impeachment, Omobayo Godwin has been sworn in as the deputy governor of Edo State.
The State Assembly approved Omobayo’s nomination by Governor Godwin Obaseki and he was promptly sworn in by Edo State Chief Judge, Daniel Iyobosa Okungbowa on Monday.
Omobayo was born on July 19, 1986. He is from Akoko Edo Local Government Area.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and a Master of Science in Public Administration from the University of Benin (UNIBEN).
The new deputy governor is a member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).
Before his appointment, he worked for Dresser Wayne West Africa Limited as a Senior Maintenance Engineer.
During the 2023 elections, the newly appointed deputy governor ran for the Federal House of Representatives seat for Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency under the Labour Party.
