The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said that 50 bank accounts are being investigated in the ongoing probe of suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu.
According to the agency, the probe is also involving the former Chief Executive Officer of the now-suspended National Social Investment Programme Authority (NSIPA), Halima Shehu.
Both Edu and Shehu were consequently suspended by President Bola Tinubu over alleged financial misconduct.
Tinubu halted the Social Investment Programme and instructed the EFCC to take over the case, urging investigation into all involved parties.
Three months later, EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede disclosed progress in the investigation, emphasizing its severity and urging patience from Nigerians.
Olukoyede’s remarks were published in the March edition of EFCCAlert, shared with Vanguard on Monday.
In his remarks, the EFCC boss urged Nigerians to trust tye process of the agency, stating that professionals were on the case and needed to do things right. He also added that the anti-graft agency had many leads they were trailing.
“As it is now we are investigating over 50 bank accounts that we have traced money into. That is no child’s play. That’s a big deal.”
“We have laws and regulations guiding our investigations. Nigerians will also know that they are already on suspension and this is based on the investigations we have done, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has proved to Nigerians that he is ready to fight corruption,” he stated.
