500 party members dump PDP for APC in Ondo

By Boye Oyeyemi –

No fewer than 500 members of the Peoples Democratic Party have defected to the All Progressives Congress in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State, citing internal disputes as the reason for their action.

This was disclosed by the former PDP House of Assembly candidate, Anjorin Dagbatan, at the Civic Centre in Ode-Irele on Sunday.

While speaking on behalf of the defectors, he said, “Internal disputes within the PDP informed their decision to switch allegiance.”

The mass party defection involved a former council chairman, Dele Olatunji, members of the PDP executive committee in the area, and hundreds of party supporters. The defectors were received by leaders of the ruling party.

While representing Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Special Adviser on Legislative and Party Matters, Babatunde Kolawole, described the development as a boost for the APC in the state.

Kolawole said the decision of the defectors demonstrated the growing strength of the ruling party across Ondo communities.

He urged the new members to work closely with party leaders to consolidate the APC’s structure and contribute to its electoral fortunes.

The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Segun Omoyofunmi, also commended the move and advised the defectors to fully integrate at the ward and local government levels.
