The Oyo State Fire Services Agency on Sunday rescued a 68-year-old man (name withheld) who fell into a well while attempting to retrieve his mobile phone at Mobolorunduro Mosque, Molefalafia, Oke-Ado, in the Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of the state.

Confirming the incident in a statement, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform, Adebayo Akiinwande, said it occurred in the early hours of Sunday at the stated location.

He disclosed that the agency was alerted to the incident via a phone call reporting that an elderly man had fallen into a well within the mosque premises.

The statement read:
“The distress call was received at exactly 06:10 hrs on Sunday, June 8, 2025, via a telephone report of someone who had fallen into a well at Mobolorunduro Mosque, No. 30 Ajeigbe Street, Molefalafia, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.

“Firefighters, led by ACFS Adedeji, were promptly deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, it was discovered that a man, approximately 68 years old, had become trapped in a deep well while attempting to recover his mobile phone.”

He added that the firemen acted swiftly, using appropriate safety measures and equipment to rescue the man alive. The victim was then handed over to his family for proper medical care.

“The cause of the incident was due to ignorance — he was unaware of the dangers involved in entering a well without proper training or equipment,” the statement noted.

Akiinwande advised the public to refrain from engaging in risky activities and reiterated the Oyo State Government’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of its citizens.
