PTDF, NUC strengthen ties to advance energy education

By Kunle Sanni –
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing research, training, and institutional capacity in Nigeria’s energy sector through closer collaboration with the National Universities Commission (NUC).
PTDF Executive Secretary, Ahmed Galadima Aminu, made this known during a courtesy visit to the NUC headquarters in Abuja, where he led the Fund’s management team to meet with NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu.
Aminu noted that the newly established College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK), is central to PTDF’s mandate of developing high-level manpower for the oil, gas, and energy industries. The postgraduate institution, built on 86 hectares, is equipped with modern residential, research, and digital learning facilities.
He commended the NUC for licensing CPESK to run 19 postgraduate programmes across six departments and three faculties, and for aligning its academic structure with international standards.
Aminu further announced partnerships with three UK universities — Strathclyde, Robert Gordon, and Portsmouth — for split-site PhD programmes, with the first batch of students set for admission in September 2025.
Prof. Ribadu, in his remarks, described CPESK as a landmark achievement that will deliver world-class education locally at a lower cost.
He pledged the NUC’s continued support to ensure the institution maintains global quality standards and a strong research focus.
