Swift response saves lives as gas blast rocks Lagos market

A gas explosion was on Sunday recorded at Orisunmibare Market in the Orile-Iganmu area of Lagos State.
Men of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, however, successfully contained the situation.
The explosion, which happened around 2:13 p.m., was traced to a gas retail outlet containing multiple cylinders of varying sizes.
A statement by the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, on Sunday said the quick intervention of firefighters from the Sari-Iganmu and Ilupeju stations prevented the incident from escalating and spreading to adjoining shops, saying “Swift responses from the Sari-Iganmu and Ilupeju Fire Stations brought the situation under control, preventing further escalation after several shops were affected”.
She confirmed that no lives were lost, though one person sustained a minor hand injury.
Adeseye assured all that the agency remains vigilant in preventing fire outbreaks and other emergencies across the state.
“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service continues to maintain vigilance to ensure public safety and the swift management of emergency situations across the state,” she said.
