Nigeria repatriates Turkish fugitive convicted of fraud

The Nigeria Police Force has successfully repatriated a 61-year-old Turkish national, Acar Huseyin, to Turkey to serve a prison sentence for fraud, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.
Huseyin was convicted earlier this year by the Istanbul Anadolu High Criminal Court and sentenced to 14 years, 8 months, and 10 days in prison. Shortly after the judgment, he fled Turkey, travelling through the Middle East before arriving in Nigeria.
In July 2025, INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau (NCB) in Ankara issued a Red Notice, requesting member countries to locate and apprehend the fugitive. Acting on the alert, INTERPOL NCB Abuja conducted discreet, intelligence-led operations that led to Huseyin’s arrest in the Nigerian capital.
After completing the required documentation and coordinating with international partners, Huseyin was repatriated to Istanbul to commence his sentence.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the INTERPOL unit for its professionalism and reiterated that Nigeria would not provide sanctuary to fugitives or escaped convicts.
He also reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to international cooperation and global efforts to combat transnational crime.
