Lagos State, Pocari Sweat partner to enhance grassroots sports
The Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) has joined forces with international isotonic beverage company Pocari Sweat to boost grassroots sports development and provide world-class support systems for emerging athletes in Lagos State.
The partnership, formalised during a high-level meeting on Monday between LSSC management and Pocari Sweat executives led by Nigeria Managing Director Mr. Yoshihiro Band, merges corporate investment with government infrastructure to offer comprehensive support for athletes from talent identification through development.
Speaking at the event, Director General of LSSC, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, described the collaboration as a watershed moment for sports in Lagos.
He explained that it would give talented athletes access to resources, training methodologies, and nutritional support previously available only to elite professionals, creating clear pathways from grassroots discovery to international competition.
Fatodu added that the partnership reflects Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to progressive policies that encourage private sector participation in the sports economy.
He noted that the administration has cultivated an enabling environment that attracts companies like Pocari Sweat to invest in initiatives that benefit both their brand and the broader sports ecosystem.
