Lagosians celebrate sports, charity with FreeKick Lagos football festival

Lagos State marked a celebration of sports and community engagement on Saturday as FreeKick Lagos, a sports and charity initiative organised by enthusiasts Toluwalase Fredrick Lewis and Abubakre Ajasa, drew thousands of participants and spectators to Campos Mini Stadium, Lagos Island.

The festival combined competitive football, entertainment, and charitable activities, highlighting the state’s thriving sporting culture and commitment to social responsibility.

Speaking at the event, Lekan Fatodu, Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, emphasised the significance of the initiative. “FreeKick Lagos represents everything we stand for at the Lagos State Sports Commission – inclusivity, excellence, and the power of sports to promote camaraderie and empower communities,” he said.

“We are proud to support events that not only showcase talent but also give back to society. This is the Lagos of our dreams, where sports meets charity, and where every citizen can participate in shaping our collective future.”

The festival featured competitive football matches, skills challenges, and interactive games, attracting prominent Nigerian entertainers including Black One, Olumide, LAX, and Perliks, who joined football enthusiasts on the pitch.

The presence of Prince Fatiu Akiolu, Managing Director of the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA), and Hon. Kayode Akiolu, representing Lagos Island II in the House of Representatives, further underscored the broad multi-sectoral support for community-driven initiatives in Lagos State.

FreeKick Lagos has quickly established itself as a flagship event where sports, entertainment, and charity intersect, fostering community spirit and reinforcing Lagos as a leading destination for sporting excellence and cultural engagement.
