Super Eagles fly past Tanzania in AFCON opener

By Tosin Omojola –
Nigeria’s Super Eagles got off to a flying start at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), ongoing in Morocco, with a 2-1 win over Tanzania.
Semi Ajayi and Ademola Lookman were the heroes of the night for the Nigerians, with Alex Iwobi providing both assists.
The Group C fixture, played in Fez, saw Nigeria take the lead in the 36th minute through Ajayi’s powerful header. The Eagles held onto the 1-0 lead into the break.
The Tanzanians, however, drew level through Mombwa, who was set up by Miroshi.
Nigeria reclaimed the lead just two minutes after the Tanzanian equaliser, when Lookman fired home from outside the box to restore the Eagles’ advantage.
The Eagles then held on to secure a flying start in the tournament.
Nigeria will next take on Tunisia on Saturday in their second AFCON match.
