Interior minister restores electricity to Ondo community after three-month blackout
By Boye Oyeyemi –
Relief has come to residents of Erusu Akoko in Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State following the restoration of electricity after about three months of total blackout, facilitated by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The community had been without power after its transformer developed a fault, a situation that reportedly crippled economic activities and disrupted daily life, as homes and businesses were plunged into darkness.
Community sources said several attempts were made to address the challenge, but the efforts yielded no results until the minister’s intervention.
Commending the intervention, the traditional ruler of the community, the Osunla of Erusu Akoko, Oba Sunday Mogaji (Imole I), described the gesture as timely and people-oriented, noting that it had eased the burden on households, artisans, traders, and students who bore the brunt of the prolonged blackout.
The monarch, speaking on behalf of his council and the people of Erusu Akoko, offered prayers for the minister, saying the community would continue to remember the intervention.
Residents also expressed gratitude to Tunji-Ojo, describing him as a responsive and compassionate leader who remains closely connected to the needs of his people.
