Governor Otti confident of easy victory in Abia 2027 governorship election
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has expressed confidence that the 2027 governorship election in the state will be far less contentious than the 2023 polls, attributing this to what he described as verifiable achievements recorded by his administration.
Otti spoke on Saturday at the 2025 Aro Day celebration held in Arochukwu Local Government Area, where he said political tensions were already building despite the election being nearly two years away.
The governor said his administration was not distracted by early political manoeuvring, stressing that its primary focus remains the delivery of good governance to the people of Abia State.
According to him, unlike the 2023 election when he relied largely on campaign promises, his government now has tangible projects and reforms to showcase to the electorate.
Otti noted that the progress recorded since he assumed office has strengthened his confidence ahead of the next election cycle, describing 2027 as an “easier” contest. “Just like it happened in 2023, 2027 will even be smoother, I can assure you,” Otti said.
He disclosed that his administration has completed about 30 months in office, adding that there is still significant time left to consolidate on ongoing programmes and policies.
Otti, who is the only sitting governor elected on the platform of the Labour Party, won the 2023 governorship election with 175,467 votes, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Okey Ahiwe, who polled 88,529 votes.
He reiterated that his government’s priority remains fulfilling its four-year mandate, insisting that sustained performance, rather than political distractions, will determine the outcome of the next election.
