A toast to snow, family and friends, by Wale Okediran

It was snowing when I left the house few days ago in Swansea, Wales for London. Outside, I was showered by a confetti of white feathery snowy flakes in the sub zero January morning.
My struggle with the highly emotional departure was softened by the fact that I was leaving under the blessings of the first snow of the year.
According to many cultures and traditions, a snowy day, especially the first snow of the year is seen as a sign of good luck, purity, prosperity and wealth.
That was when it finally dawned on me that after several wintery days, my Book Reading tour of the UK had come to an end and it was time to go back to my Accra, Ghana base.
Packaged and attended by a warm assembly of family, friends and literary enthusiasts, to whom I am eternally grateful, MADAGALI, my new literary offering was well received by man and blessed by God.
On ground to welcome me back to London from Wales and at the same time bid me farewell from the UK were, Prof Wangui Wa Goro and Dr Sola Adeyemi, two versatile UK based academicians and literary activists ( in the above picture).
As we tackled the farewell lunch at the Radisson Blu Hotel overlooking the enchanting Canary Wharf, the two egg heads and I agreed on more areas for future collaborations.
As the famous saying goes; ‘”The reward for work well-done is more work”.
