Controversial Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has been granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja following her arrest in Lagos on Tuesday by operatives of the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

She was remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre after spending the night at the Panti Police Station in Yaba, Lagos, before being moved to Abuja to face cybercrime-related charges.

At Thursday’s proceedings, Justice Emeka Nwite granted Okorie bail in the sum of ₦5 million with one surety in like sum over allegations of cyberbullying her colleague, Mercy Johnson-Okojie.

Her lawyer, Ernest Nwoye, applied for bail, arguing that there was no evidence she would jump bail. Although the prosecution opposed the application, the court ruled that no concrete proof had been presented to justify continued detention.

In his ruling, Justice Nwite said bail is at the discretion of the court and must be exercised judicially and judiciously, adding that he was granting the application in the interest of justice.

The judge ordered that the surety must be a Level 13 civil servant who would provide an affidavit of means, an appointment letter, and evidence of last promotion, while both Okorie and the surety must submit two passport photographs to the court registrar.

The matter was adjourned until 23 March 2026 for trial, while Okorie was ordered to remain at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending the verification of her bail conditions.

Okorie, who was earlier re-arraigned on a seven-count charge including cyberstalking and criminal defamation, pleaded not guilty to all charges, prompting the prosecution to seek a trial date to present its witnesses.
