Wike slams Makinde, says politics is not contract business

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has warned that politics should not be treated as a contract venture as he took a swipe at Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, cautioning against engaging in political fights without the capacity to win.

Wike made the remark on Monday during the 107th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he described as unfortunate certain claims allegedly made by Makinde regarding meetings involving him and the president.

The minister dismissed the claims as misleading and criticised what he described as unnecessary political confrontations, stressing that politics requires careful planning and strategy rather than impulsive actions.

Wike warned that individuals should avoid starting battles they are not prepared to sustain, noting that such moves often lead to political setbacks.

“A fight you can’t fight, don’t start it. Politics is not contract work. You wanted money; I wanted power. Stay where you are as a contractor,” he said.

He reiterated that politics is not a business venture, drawing a clear distinction between governance and contract-based engagements.

Wike further urged PDP members to remain focused and strategic, especially as the party prepares for its national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30.

He warned that members who fail to demonstrate commitment to the convention risk being sidelined, while also calling for unity and intensified reconciliation efforts within the party.
