Priscilla Ojo Mbakala, daughter of popular Nollywood filmmaker Iyabo Ojo, has addressed backlash from critics who blamed her mother for fuelling the rift between close associates, Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham, insisting that she has been misunderstood.
Following the drama that ensued between Toyin and Funke at the premiere of Iyabo’s recent movie, The Return of Arinzo, Priscilla spoke in defence of her mother, explaining that she is not a bad person but is often misunderstood by the public. She maintained that the criticism is frequently driven by individuals who do not want her mother to succeed.
In a lengthy post shared via her Instagram page on Thursday, Priscilla defended her mother, writing: “Always misunderstood, always blamed, even when she’s not the one in the mix. Since The Return of Arinzo, can’t you see the pattern? A lot of drama back to back, just for one aim — ruin her plans.”
Priscilla further insisted that her mother is a good person, but her statements are often deliberately misinterpreted. She also questioned whether people would have turned out in large numbers to support her movie premiere if she were a bad person.
In addition, Iyabo’s daughter said her mother often gets into misunderstandings with others due to her activism. She concluded by urging her mother to remain true to herself, expressing that her family and fans love her. Priscilla ended her post with a prayer for her mother, assuring her of success in her latest project, Arinzo.
