Oyetola’s son drops out of APC senatorial primary in Osun

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
Olufemi Oyetola, son of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, has withdrawn from the Osun Central Senatorial contest on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Oyetola, in a letter dated May 18, 2026, and addressed to the Osun State Chairman of the APC, Tajudeen Lawal, and copied to the APC Osun Central Senatorial Leader and Osun APC National Assembly Primary Election Committee, said his decision followed extensive consultations and the intervention of the party leadership in the interest of the unity, stability and electoral success of the party.
He explained that the withdrawal was difficult because of the support and sacrifices made by youths and stakeholders across Osun Central, who voluntarily purchased the nomination form on his behalf.
Oyetola described the gesture as a rare demonstration of confidence in his leadership and commitment to the development of Osun Central.
While appreciating supporters, party faithful and political associates who backed his aspiration, he said, “Your passion for the growth of our party and the development of Osun Central will never be taken for granted”.
Oyetola stated that a loyal party member must always place the collective interest of the party above personal ambition, adding that he remained committed to the ideals and vision of the party.
He pledged to continue working with party leaders, members and youths towards strengthening the party and ensuring victory in future elections.
Oyetola also urged his supporters to remain calm, steadfast and united behind the leadership and decisions of the party, describing the move as a demonstration of sacrifice, discipline and dedication to party cohesion.
