The Lagos State Government on Monday said emergency response operations across the state saved properties valued at N118.32bn from fire incidents in 2025, while losses amounted to N19.72bn.

The Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Mr Olugbenga Oyerinde, disclosed this during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Ikeja.

He said the figures reflected the increasing effectiveness of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and other emergency agencies in reducing the impact of fire disasters across the state.

Oyerinde explained that the estimated value of property saved was more than six times higher than losses recorded, putting the net asset protection value at about N98.60bn.

He noted that March 2025 recorded the highest value of properties saved at N12.60bn, while August recorded the lowest at N6.78bn, attributing the variation to seasonal changes and reduced incidents during the rainy period.

The commissioner also said March recorded the highest fire-related losses at N2.10bn, while August recorded the lowest at N1.13bn within the period under review.

He further revealed that Lagos recorded 1,972 emergency calls related to fire and rescue operations between January and December 2025, excluding false alarms, with fire incidents accounting for 1,685 of the calls.

Oyerinde added that the state also recorded 139 rescue operations, 129 salvage operations, 13 collapsed building cases, three partial collapses and three explosion incidents during the year.
