The Osun State Police Command has arrested three men and recovered five bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp from an abandoned Toyota Sienna Space Bus along the Moro-Ife Road in Moro, Ife North Local Government Area of the state.
The command, in a statement issued on Friday by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the incident occurred on August 30, 2026, at about 1:30 p.m.
According to the statement, operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Team E, were on routine patrol along the road when they found a silver-coloured Toyota Sienna Space Bus with registration number BGT 81 OLG, which had broken down and been abandoned by the roadside.
The police said the operatives, who noticed that something was amiss, decided to inspect the vehicle. Subsequently, one Awo Omotayo, 38, who identified himself as the driver of the faulty vehicle, arrived at the scene in a red-coloured Nissan Cabstar with registration number EPE 299 YJ, driven by Abayomi Suleiman, 22, and accompanied by Oluwatayo Samuel, to tow the Sienna vehicle.

The statement said a search of the Sienna Space Bus led to the discovery of bags containing weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, prompting the immediate arrest of the three men. It added that the suspected illicit substance and the three vehicles were recovered and taken to the command for discreet investigation.
The statement further said that during interrogation, Omotayo allegedly told the police that one “Baba Ibo”, whose real name was yet to be ascertained and who operates around Garage Olode in Osun State, engaged him to transport the suspected illicit substance to Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
He further stated that “Baba Ibo” had the contact details of the intended recipient, who was expected to receive the exhibits in Ogbomoso.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Zungura, directed that the investigation be intensified to unravel the source and intended recipient of the suspected illicit substance.
