Rangers seek CAF action over alleged MC Alger fans’ rampage

Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) champions Rangers International FC have formally petitioned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over alleged stadium vandalism and security breaches at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta.

The petition follows the Flying Antelopes’ 2-0 victory over Algerian side MC Alger in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary-round fixture on Sunday, October 18, 2026.

Rangers secured the victory despite playing a significant portion of the encounter with 10 men following the early dismissal of goalkeeper Lucky Jimoh.

Super Eagles defender Kenneth Igboke opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute before James Emo doubled the advantage with an impressive solo effort four minutes later.

However, the victory was overshadowed by reports of unrest and vandalism involving some visiting supporters after the match.

In a statement issued on Monday, October 19, 2026, Rangers confirmed that it had lodged a formal complaint with CAF over the reported incidents.

“The Club has raised concerns regarding the reported destruction of a stadium entrance gate, unauthorised entry without payment of gate fees, vandalisation of stadium seats and other acts of disorder,” the statement read.

Videos circulating on social media also appeared to show unrest in the away supporters’ section, with damaged seats and altercations reported following the encounter.
