NDC shifts Obi, Kwankwaso campaign council inauguration to October 26

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has moved the inauguration of its national campaign council for the 2027 general elections from October 20 to October 26.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, announced the change in a statement on Monday, attributing the postponement to the tight schedule of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

According to Director, Obi has an important overseas engagement that necessitated the rescheduling of the event.

He apologised to party members and supporters for any inconvenience caused by the change and urged them to remain committed to the party’s electoral ambitions.

The NDC spokesman called on supporters to work towards the victory of Obi, his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and other party candidates in the 2027 elections.

The postponement comes amid discussions among opposition parties about the possibility of forming an alliance to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the presidential election.

Kwankwaso had said on Sunday that the NDC would not withdraw from the race in favour of the African Democratic Congress or any other party.

He maintained that he and Obi remained committed to contesting the 2027 presidential election, amid speculation about a possible opposition consensus candidate.
