ICAN conference: Sanwo-Olu highlights accountability, financial discipline in economic growth

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has stressed the importance of accountability and prudent financial management in strengthening Nigeria’s economy and securing its future.

Sanwo-Olu stated this while speaking at the 56th Annual Accountants Conference of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) in Abuja.

He said economic progress required more than financial figures, noting that public resources must be managed responsibly to deliver tangible benefits to citizens.

According to the governor, accountability involves transparency in the management of public funds and ensuring that government expenditure translates into improved living conditions for the people.

Sanwo-Olu said his administration had prioritised sound accounting practices and financial discipline in planning, investment and project delivery in Lagos State.

He identified the Lagos Blue and Red Line rail systems, the expansion of the Bus Rapid Transit network, major road projects and improvements in healthcare services as examples of projects undertaken by his administration.

The governor expressed appreciation to ICAN for providing a platform for discussions on responsible financial management and its role in national development.

He urged governments and other stakeholders to sustain responsible resource management, adding that accountability and prudent spending were essential to building a stronger Lagos State and a better Nigeria.
