Ebola: Nigerian woman travelled to DR Congo, showed no symptoms in our country — Uganda health ministry

Uganda’s Ministry of Health has said a Nigerian woman reported to have contracted Ebola travelled to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) for business before returning to Nigeria, where she later developed symptoms.
The ministry disclosed this in a public statement on Tuesday, noting that the woman transited through Uganda in early October without showing symptoms.
It, however, said the woman’s passage through Uganda did not establish that she contracted the virus in the East African country, adding that the location of exposure remained under investigation.
“The Government of Nigeria is yet to provide detailed information on her travel itinerary and clinical history, which will guide further investigations and any necessary contact tracing,” the statement said.
According to a statement signed by Prof. Charles Olaro, Uganda’s Director General of Health Services, the ministry clarified that the country had no confirmed active Ebola cases as of the time of the statement.
It said limited provisions had been maintained for humanitarian and diplomatic movement, adding that it would work with relevant agencies to strengthen screening and public health controls at entry points.
The ministry urged the public to remain calm and vigilant, while observing regular handwashing and sanitising practices.
It also said further updates would be communicated through its official channels.
