The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has described the death of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, at the age of 100 as a major loss to Nigeria’s political and democratic development.
Tunji-Ojo, in a condolence message, said the late elder statesman dedicated his life to public service and principled leadership, leaving behind a legacy that would continue to inspire generations.
He noted that Fasoranti played a significant role in the political history of Ondo State and Nigeria, earning recognition for his commitment to good governance and democratic ideals.
The minister described the deceased as a committed follower of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and a prominent figure in Afenifere, the Yoruba socio-political organisation.
According to him, Fasoranti consistently advocated justice, true federalism and the protection of Yoruba interests while also supporting national unity and democratic governance.
Tunji-Ojo also recalled the celebration of Fasoranti’s 100th birthday in Lagos, saying the event reflected the respect and admiration he commanded across generations and political affiliations.
He extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, the people of Ondo State, members of Afenifere and others mourning his death, praying that God would grant them the strength to bear the loss.
“Adieu, Pa Fasoranti. Your legacy of courage, service and integrity endures,” the minister said, while praying for the peaceful repose of the elder statesman’s soul.
