The Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, has indefinitely suspended Dr. Saka Adegbite Balogun as Balogun of Ogbomosoland over his alleged failure to sign the prescribed Oath of Allegiance to the throne.
The suspension was conveyed in a letter dated October 20, 2026, and signed by the monarch, also known as Orumogege III.
In the letter, Oba Olaoye cited Balogun’s failure to fulfil a requirement attached to his installation as the reason for the decision.
The monarch maintained that signing the Oath of Allegiance was a fundamental obligation of the titleholder. Balogun’s alleged failure to comply with the requirement prompted his indefinite suspension.
The decision affects Balogun’s position within the traditional institution of Ogbomosoland, although the circumstances surrounding his alleged failure to sign the oath were not detailed in the report.
Meanwhile, the letter did not specify whether further traditional or administrative steps would be taken to resolve the matter or determine the future of the title.
No response from Balogun was included in the report, leaving his position on the suspension unclear. It was also not stated whether he intended to challenge the decision.
As of Wednesday, October 21, 2026, further details about the dispute and any possible steps towards its resolution had not been made public.
