A false sense of victimisation: a response to Olumide Akpata, By Rotimi Adeyeye

These are all rhetorics to justify painting pot calling kettle black.

In Anambra State, where the same election took place the same day,

  1. We saw video clips of IPOB unknown gunmen killing their own Ibo people for the election, yet LP won just 8 seats, and APGA won 17. In such case, there was no “voter suppression, right”?
  2. In Anambra State, at the Presidential Election, APC scored 0 vote. That does not suggest to this writer that there was voter intimidation in any way. But in the same Anambra State, APC had Ward, Local Government, and States Party leaders, which by no means are less than 1000 people. Not to talk of party members. Yet APC had zero vote in the election.
  3. In Anambra State, the general claim of the Ibos is that there are Yoruba people living in their land and doing well with their children. There are Yoruba trading or working there. If these claims are true, are they not registered voters there? Why didn’t they vote or have to vote for Labour Party in Anambra if there was no voter intimidation or suppression there? Or is it that they did not come out to vote for their safety? Yet the writer is claiming a victim mentality of voter suppression in Lagos.

The Statement has been made by the Governorship election in Lagos State Yorubaland that political decisions in the State MUST be made and left to be made ONLY by Yoruba citizens in Lagos State. PERIOD!

If anyone feels denied by being excluded on the ground that they are making economic contribution to the State, please take your economic or tax contribution to your State. No apologies on this. If Yoruba can not make political choices for Ibo in Iboland, why should Ibo make political choices for Yoruba people in Yorubaland? If HausaFulani can not make political decisions for Ibo people in Iboland, why should Ibo people be involved in HausaFulani political decisions in HausaFulani land? If Ibo people do not make political decisions for HausaFulani in Kano, Sokoto, or Jigawa States. Are there no Ibos in these States making “economic contribution” there? why should Ibo people make political decisions for Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, or Lagos States?

Nigeria is for us all, Yorubaland is for Yoruba people. Iboland is for Ibo citizens. HausaFulani land is for HausaFulani people. Effik-Ibibio land is for Effik-Ibibio citizens. Period.

Inordinate ambition by any Nation within Nigeria to overrun and dominate another Nation can not stand till eternity. We will rather go our separate ways. It is not a MUST that we be together. Europe has about the same population that Nigeria has today, but has 44 homogeneous Nations. Why should Nigeria revert back to its homogeneous demographic Nations irrespective of the number of Nations that will emerge by doing so.

Nigeria is a country, not a Nation. We should all get that clearly into our skull.
