AbdulRazaq hails Kwara United’s first-ever cup win, debate team’s victory

By Mosunmola Ayobami, Ilorin –
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has expressed overwhelming joy as Kwara United clinched the 2025 President Federation Cup — the first time any team from the state has won the trophy since its creation in 1967.
In a statement personally signed on Saturday in Ilorin, the governor described the victory as historic and a testament to the resilience and determination of the team.
He applauded the players, coaching crew, management, the State Sports Commission, and the supporters’ club for their commitment and teamwork.
“I am particularly grateful to the people of our state, including Kwarans in the diaspora, for their overwhelming support for the team. This win again testifies to the power of team spirit, discipline, determination, and grit,” he stated.
AbdulRazaq noted that the win over Abakaliki FC came shortly after another major feat — Kwara’s contingent winning the Senior President’s Debate Competition at the national level for the first time ever.
The governor recalled that for three consecutive years, pupils under the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) had dominated the President’s School Debate Competition, a reflection of the state’s growing investment in education.
He stressed that these achievements are not accidental but results of deliberate investments in youth development, education, sports, and other key sectors of the economy.
“I congratulate all Kwarans at home and abroad on these achievements. We are committed to keeping our state in the positive spotlight both nationally and globally,” he added.
