Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has commended President Bola Tinubu for supporting the deployment of a full Nigerian Army brigade to strengthen security and flush out kidnappers from forests across the state.
The Nigerian Army headquarters has deployed troops and heavy equipment to different parts of Kwara South, with soldiers already moving through communities around Oke Ode and Babanla, both in Ifelodun Local Government Area.
The operation, which also extends to Edu and Patigi Local Government Areas, is aimed at combing through thick forests from which kidnappers have launched attacks on communities and abducted residents for ransom.
AbdulRazaq, who met with President Tinubu on the issue at the weekend on the sidelines of his visit to Jos, expressed appreciation to the President for his swift support, as well as to the military high command and allied security forces for their renewed intervention to eliminate threats to public safety in the state.
“We will not spare any resources in support of the military, DSS, police, and other security agencies as they work to strengthen the security of lives and property,” the Governor said in a statement welcoming the army deployment on Wednesday.
“We are upbeat that this operation, as part of Operation Fasan Yanma, will eliminate all forms of threats in affected areas in Kwara South and Kwara North. I thank the President and the security agencies for the efforts so far.
“As I said a few days ago, we just need to double our efforts to save the people. We are confident that the Brigadier General A.A. Babatunde-led Army Brigade will succeed in this important task and clear the entire areas.”
The Governor also commended the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Army Staff, the General Officer Commanding the 2nd Division, and other officers for their support in restoring peace and security across the state.
