Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq announced on Tuesday that the Ilorin Innovation Hub, currently under construction and a key project of his administration, will foster technological growth across Africa and create opportunities for millions of young people.
The Governor stated that the project is 95% complete, noting that the delay is due to efforts to ensure strict adherence to specifications and standards.
Governor AbdulRazaq made these remarks during a visit to the project site in Ilorin, the state capital, to assess the progress made so far. He was accompanied by the Managing Director of the Ilorin Innovation Hub, Temi Kolawole.
“Work has reached an advanced stage. Once this facility is commissioned, it will be among the best in Africa in terms of infrastructure and content. It will significantly drive growth in the tech sector,” he told reporters.
“You can have an impressive building, but without quality content, it doesn’t serve its purpose. We have already partnered with IHS, which ensures the sustainability of this building in terms of operations.
“The facility will also be powered by solar energy to ensure sustainable power. So, we are on the right track.”
AbdulRazaq expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done and reiterated that the slower pace of the project is to ensure it meets competitive standards in Africa.
“It’s taking time, but it’s essential to get it right and have the right partner to bring this vision to life,” he said.
“We are in the final stretch; everything is almost ready. It is about 95% complete.”
Kolawole added, “This project will undoubtedly transform the state’s economy by equipping the people of Kwara with globally competitive skills, thereby integrating them into the global market.”
The Governor also inspected the ongoing remodelling and reconstruction of Kwara Hotels in Ilorin and the access gate of the Government House.
