AbdulRazaq reaffirms commitment to digital innovation, youth empowerment in Kwara

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering young tech enthusiasts and transforming the state into a hub of technological innovation.

Speaking at the Kwara Coding and Digital Literacy Programme, the governor expressed satisfaction with the growing success of young Kwarans in technology. The event, themed “Kwara Futures: Empowering a Digitally Ready Generation,” was organised by the Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Digital Innovation, Hon. Kayode Ishola.

AbdulRazaq said the government is determined to position Kwara on the global digital map by fostering collaborations with international tech accelerators and unlocking cross-border funding opportunities. He described the achievements of young innovators as evidence that strategic investment in technology can turn local talents into global players.

“Our administration is unwavering in its commitment to transform Kwara into a beacon of technological excellence,” the governor said. “By investing in cutting-edge infrastructure and fostering a supportive ecosystem, we are equipping young techies with the tools to turn bold ideas into global realities.”

The governor commended Ishola and his team for their efforts, urging participants to sustain the momentum of innovation. He said the initiative reflects the administration’s vision to make Kwara a model for digital transformation and youth empowerment.

Ten schools showcased projects such as Smart School Attendance Systems, Weather Forecast Applications, and the Igbaja Farm Expense Tracker (IFET) App. United Junior Secondary School, Ilorin, won the top prize of ₦1 million, followed by Ilorin Grammar School with ₦500,000 and Government Girls’ Day Secondary School, Pakata, with ₦250,000.

Hon. Ishola said the programme has trained 5,604 students across 50 public schools and engaged over 120 instructors, including NYSC members and ICT teachers. He described the initiative as a bridge between classroom learning and global digital opportunities.

Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, noted that education funding under AbdulRazaq has risen from about five percent to 14 percent of the state budget. Other speakers, including officials from NIGCOMSAT, praised the governor for his sustained investment in youth and innovation.
